What does an aid worker do?

There are over 200 Italian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) operating worldwide. They deal with development cooperation, education, health, environmental protection and humanitarian emergencies. Those working in these sectors, financed by national, European and global public interventions and donations from private individuals and foundations, are present in over 120 countries, mainly in Africa and South America. Alongside professional workers there are often quotas of volunteer staff. Aid workers often work to improve the living conditions not only of residents of the individual countries, but also to assist and improve those of migrants who are sometimes only temporarily in certain states, but are heading for other destinations.
